Wireless communications in a descentralized network

Goal: To obtain performance limits for communications between users of a decentralized wireless network.
Signals transmitted through a wireless medium suffer severe attenuations. Furthermore, the transmission of information in a uncoordinated network may be limited by interference between users when they are present in large numbers. In this project the asymptotic regime is obtained when the amount of user is very large. In particular, the analysis focuses on cooperative schemes that use intermediate relay nodes to improve the transmission rate of each user.
This is a theoretical study in nature whose aim is to obtain a clear understanding of the main problems arising in large communication networks. This could lead to rules of management of a network. Moreover, these rules could be particularly useful for the deployment of ad hoc networks in limited areas such as a femtocell in a smart building.

Wireless sensor network

Goal: To design and analyze observation schemes that use sensing nodes distributed in space, linked tpgehter through wireless channels.
Detection and estimation problems using inteligent nodes able to measure and to transmit their measurements are posed. Those nodes are in general autonomous and battery operated. To increase the life span of the overall network, battery use on each node should be optimized. In general, it is possible to formulate an optimization problem to establish the tradeoff among the resources available at each node and the performance of the global observation process.

Modeling and processing of radar signals

Goal:To build a design environment for airborne SAR.

The design environment is meant to be used on a first design phase for the signal processing algorithms. For that, the raw signal received at the radar antenna needs to be simulated for different configurations the aircraft (orientations with respecto to target, speed, etc).
